Dr. Alan Yassin

Dr. Yassin is dual trained dentist in both Periodontics and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

He attained his dental degree in 2001 from Aleppo University before receiving 4 years of extensive Oral and Maxillofacial training at Damascus Hospital

 

His specialty training in periodontology, along with his Master of Science in oral science was attained from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.

 

Dr. Yassin is a Fellow of the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Diplomat of the German Board of Oral Implantology DGZI. He has several publications and articles in refereed and in peer-reviewed journals; he also serves as a reviewer in many academic journals.

 

Dr. Yassin holds a teaching position at the University of Washington as an affiliate clinical professor. He is also the Program Director and founder of the Implantology program of the Washington Academy of General Dentistry since 2018, in addition he actively lectures at national and international conferences and symposiums on the subject of implants and advanced esthetics/periodontal plastic surgery, in addition to rigorous online courses and webinars. He has a private practice limited to periodontics, oral surgery and implant dentistry in Seattle, Washington.

Soft Tissue Management in Oral & Periodontal Surgeries”

Incision & Flap Design, Flap Management, Suturing Techniques, Oral Plastic Surgery, Root Coverage Surgeries, Basic & Advanced Soft Tissue Grafting Techniques

Dealing with soft tissues and flaps design, reflection and closure is the most important key of success for any dental surgery. This course is designed for doctors who desire to learn the basics of oral surgeries and periodontal procedures. Starting with a review of oral anatomy, various flap designs and incisions methods, flap reflection and soft tissue management. Achieving primary and tension free closure is an art that will be learned along with the suturing techniques and armamentarium.

With the unique back ground of Dr. Yassin’s dual training, the participants will have an invaluable opportunity to learn both periodontal and oral surgery fundamentals’ skills.  Furthermore, advanced periodontal surgeries techniques will be covered to understand the diagnosis and treatment steps for gingival recession correction surgeries, connective tissue grafts procedures and root coverage surgeries. This course is designed for general dentists whether fresh graduates or with several years of experience, A full day of lecture that covers the basics and the literature available, in addition to a full day of hands-on work to practice on pig jaws.

Course Objectives:

  • Discuss the principles of different flaps and incisions.
  • Master the suturing techniques for both periodontal and oral surgeries.
  • Dentists will gain a better knowledge on indications for soft tissue augmentation around natural teeth and implants.
  • Participants will be able to evaluate and treatment plan soft tissue grafting.
  • Learn about the available soft tissue augmentation techniques and armamentarium.
  • Practicing connective tissue grafts and free gingival grafts techniques on pig jaws.
  • Learn the basics of the minimally traumatic extraction and socket grafting techniques.

  • Basic anatomy and biology of the oral cavity.
  • Soft tissue grafting principles.
  • Case planning before the soft tissue augmentation surgery.
  • Connective tissue graft VS Free gingival graft
  • Gingival recession and root exposure classification.
  • The Periodontal perspective of the soft tissue phenotype.
  • The importance of attached gingiva around implants.
  • Planning “soft tissue” before implant placement.
  • Second stage surgery around dental implants.
  • The use of allograft Acellular Dermal Matrix.
  • Complications in soft tissue augmentation
  • Principles of extraction and ridge preservation.
  • Brief discussion of socket grafting and bone graft materials.
  • Surgical videos showing different procedures.

HANDS ON TRAINING

Hands-on session will cover:

  • Flaps design and incisions in oral and periodontal surgeries
  • Full thickness VS partial thickness flaps
  • Mastering the efficient way of performing suturing techniques.
  • Harvesting connective tissue graft.
  • Root coverage surgery with CTG.
  • Collecting free gingival grafts.
  • Attached gingiva correction surgery with FGG.
  • Apically and coronally positioned flaps.
  • Minimum traumatic extraction with ridge preservation.
  • Socket grafting and bone graft principles.
  • Barrier membranes application in ridge preservation.
